Better bales: 8 tips for using Cordex wrapping film
Share
Round and square bales have become a familiar sight in the Dutch landscape. It's no longer just the poorer cuts that are stored this way; good-quality grass silage is also often baled. But how do you ensure your bales remain perfectly preserved?
With the right wrapping film and techniques, you can prevent feed loss and maximize nutritional value. Cordex shares essential tips for the best bales.
1. Choose the right film : Selecting high-quality stretch film is crucial for the quality of the final product. Cordex's range of films offers superior mechanical properties essential for the wrapping process and subsequent handling of the bales. Choose a film with excellent tear and puncture resistance, strong adhesion, and a high UV stabilizer content for the best possible protection of your feed.
2. The importance of the right number of layers : For optimal preservation, Cordex recommends at least six layers of wrapping film. This ensures optimal forage quality and protects against damage from sharp parts of the crop. Depending on the structure and moisture content of the crop, even 8 to 10 layers may be necessary, especially in extreme weather conditions.
3. Check the overlap : Proper overlap is crucial for an airtight bale. A minimum overlap of 50% is recommended to create an optimal seal, which is essential for maintaining the quality of the baled feed.
4. Optimize stretch : Cordex wrapping film performs optimally at a specific stretch. Maintain a pre-stretch of 55-70% for round bales and up to 65% for square bales for best results. Avoid excessive stretch, as this can reduce film overlap.
5. Storage and handling : Careful storage of film rolls can significantly impact their performance. Store them upright and away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent deformation and maintain quality.
6. Inspect your equipment : Smooth film operation requires clean and undamaged parts of your baler. Check these before starting to bale to prevent unwanted interruptions or damage.
7. Calculate the amount of film accurately : Accurately calculating the required film consumption is crucial. This ensures efficiency and ensures you use enough film to properly wrap your bales.
8. Dealing with film damage : Damage to the film can affect the preservation of the feed. Inspect the reel and rollers on the baler regularly and, if necessary, use UV-resistant silage film tape for repairs.
Cordex offers strong, tear-resistant film with top UV protection. The best quality at the best price.
